Mike &amp; Susan will share with you their thoughts about how to prepare for your child’s transition, initiate your plan, and how that plan evolves over time. Their son Zachary spent 7 years at Riverview, and continues to thrive now at age 30. Mike is a professional financial advisor and devotes his time exclusively to families who have children with special needs. Susan is the orchestrator of Zack’s life and activities. Together they will share a way forward for you and your child.

Cathy will introduce families to the range of public funds available to pay for housing and supportive services (including for those without DDS supports). Some examples are given of how these can be combined with private funds to create housing.

**Health Care Coverage for Adults with Disabilities**

This presentation will focus on health care coverage for adults with autism and other disabilities. Topics to be discussed include information about: How access and eligibility for private and public insurance benefits change as children transition into adulthood. Keeping adult disabled dependents on a parent’s private insurance past age 26. Strategies for maximizing access to insurance-funded treatments. The information has been developed specifically for families in Massachusetts, but is relevant for residents of other states.

Government Benefits of SSI/Medicaid will be presented simply and broken down in a language everyone can understand. Attendees will learn what SSI is, who is eligible, and how to apply. We will discuss how much money one receives, how Medicaid is connected, and what happens if one goes to work.

Eavesdrop as a small group of parents share their reactions, thoughts and feelings about the weekend. Using a “fishbowl” format, the group will engage in a facilitated discussion, while audience members listen in. Others in the room will have the opportunity to express themselves and may step forward and enter the conversation at any time. This session promises to be a highly stimulating and valuable information exchange as well as an enjoyable personal experience. A brief networking reception will follow.
